Artist Statement
Melanie Sky is an emerging artist working and residing on Djaara Country in the historic town of Maldon, Victoria, Australia. With a childhood deeply influenced by art, dance, and music, surrounded by the bush in coastal NSW, on Darkinjung Country, Sky developed a profound appreciation of nature. Drawing on her inherent energetic connection with the Australian environment, she channels her passion for movement and the interplay of nature and colour into material-led practice.

Guided by the boundless inspiration found in her surroundings, Melanie's artistic journey is an exploration of her sense of self, place and her connection to the land, which she expresses through the language of colour, materiality and form. Embracing a vibrant palette, Melanie amplifies the intensity of colour and employs diverse techniques to infuse her work with flexibility and fluidity, enabling her to dramatise the landscape through bold strokes, captivating shapes, lines and textures.
Driven by a passion for pushing artistic boundaries, Melanie also seeks to challenge conventional notions of materials and techniques. She embraces the use of unconventional mediums, incorporating elements such as recycled materials, found objects, and organic substances into her work. By repurposing these materials, she not only creates unique textures and visual effects but also sends a powerful message about the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Through her distinctive artistic style, she strives to create immersive experiences that elicit a visceral response, engaging the viewer's senses and sparking a deep connection to the natural world.
